PR Mission Day 6 Recap

PR Mission Day 6 Recap

Day 6

The pressure was on to begin putting the ceiling panels up.

The day began as a trio of painters painted the plywood for the ceiling on the porch while the construction on Dennis’ bedroom ceiling began.

Lunch was brought to us by Dennis’ sister, Candi and her husband. It was quite a feast, showing us how much she appreciated our help with her brother’s house.

We received a call that we would be getting two helpers in the afternoon. About 2:30 Nilsa and Jay, newlyweds joined our work crew. Jay helped stabilize the ceiling supports. Nilsa helped paint the ceiling.

The work on the porch ceiling begins.

This is a view of the roof from the inside is the home as it was when we arrived.

Dennis’ new bedroom ceiling took priority. He says he prefers this room because it has better ventilation.

Judy ensures the safety of our climbers.

Our Puerto Rican friends and helpers Gregory (translator), Nilsa and Jay (newlyweds).

Dennis and his sister at lunch. They brought lots of food.

Work came to a halt so we could all enjoy the meal.

Activity everywhere!

Caroline takes her turn at the circular saw preparing a board for the porch ceiling.

Timing and materials caused some occasional breaks as we waited for our next opportunity to work.

Lawn cleanup was not our assignment but a gift we gave to Mr. Dennis. Sue and Caroline started the project and it made a huge improvement!

Greggory, our translator helped us out with the weedeater we borrowed from the neighbors earlier in the week.

Neither rain nor snow, sleet nor hail will stop the mail … but we think Maria slowed it down.

Homemade treats from Mr. Dennis. He brought us limber, a Puerto Rican dessert similar to a popsicle.

We found surprises (lizard eggs) inside of our outlets and light switches.

A group photo in our new volunteering shirts. Take a look at that ceiling!

We finished the day with trip to the local ice cream shop, again. This time, the ‘butter finger Caroline’ dropped her butter finger ice cream.

Thank you all!!
