Today's Scripture

The Righteous vs. the Wicked/The Faithful vs. the Unfaithful

TODAY’S READING SCHEDULE: Proverbs 10: 27-30, Proverbs 11:3-6

“The fear of the Lord adds length to life, but the years of the wicked are cut short. The prospect of the righteous is joy, but the hopes of the wicked come to nothing. The way of the Lord is a refuge for the blameless, but it is the ruin of those who do evil. The righteous will never be uprooted, but the wicked will not remain in the land.” Proverbs‬ ‭10:27-30‬ ‭NIV‬‬‬‬‬‬

“The integrity of the upright guides them, but the unfaithful are destroyed by their duplicity. Wealth is worthless in the day of wrath, but righteousness delivers from death. The righteousness of the blameless makes their paths straight, but the wicked are brought down by their own wickedness. The righteousness of the upright delivers them, but the unfaithful are trapped by evil desires.”
Proverbs‬ ‭11:3-6‬ ‭NIV‬‬‬‬

What does this passage mean to me/us

So much can be learned from the book of Proverbs. This book of the Bible is considered wisdom literature, written by a man who asked his God for the gift of wisdom, not riches or an easy life or unwarranted blessings. David Jeremiah says that “Proverbs offers a set of instructions for wise living –
a handbook for skillfully living a godly life.” The verses we read today tell us the difference between the living of a righteous life and a wicked life. Blessings come to those who live an obedient, righteous life, but the hopes of the wicked come to nothing. Blessings come to the faithful who live with integrity, but the unfaithful are brought down by their own wickedness and trapped by evil desires. If we love our God and have invited Jesus Christ His Son to live in our hearts, why would we want to live any other way besides the righteous and faithful life which brings us God’s favor and blessing? – contributed by Sarah Pero

Prayer

Dear Lord, my greatest desire is to live a life which is pleasing to you. Please show me the way of righteousness and faithfulness so that I might live a godly life. I love you with all of my mind, my heart, my soul and my strength. In Jesus’ name I pray, Amen
