Today's Scripture

light for my journey – Psalm 119:105-112

TODAY’S READING SCHEDULE: Psalm 119:89-176(CEB)

105 Your word is a lamp before my feet
and a light for my journey.
106 I have sworn, and I fully mean it:
I will keep your righteous rules.
107 I have been suffering so much—
Lord, make me live again according to your promise.
108 Please, Lord, accept my spontaneous gifts of praise.
    Teach me your rules!
109 Though my life is constantly in danger,
    I won’t forget your Instruction.
110 Though the wicked have set a trap for me,
I won’t stray from your precepts.
111 Your laws are my possession forever
because they are my heart’s joy.
112 I have decided to keep your statutes forever, every last one.

What does this passage mean to me/us

In couple weeks, we will be sending 10 members to be part of the recovery project at Puerto Rico, after hurricane Maria.
While we were discussing our packing list, we heard that might be essential to bring a headband lamp.
Hearing that still pockets of areas do does not have do not have electricity, the headband lamp can be ‘a light to our feet.’

As we are walking in this journey of life, which can be dark, today’s scripture challenges us to ask the same question; ‘how important is the word of God to us?
Do we hold tight on to it, as the Psalmist proclaims?
Do we carve every word in our hearts, so it can guide us?
Do we follow it faithfully, to witness God’s working hand in our lives?

As we commit to faithful follow the light, may our heart say;

Your laws are my possession forever
because they are my heart’s joy.
112 I have decided to keep your statutes forever, every last one.

Prayer

Lord, help us to see the power in your words. Help us to trust and follow your words every day. In Christ name, AMEN.
