Mary Lee Lammers Haldiman

September 14, 1932 – August 6, 2019

Mary Lee Lammers Haldiman died peacefully in Salem, Virginia on August 6, 2019 at the age of 86. She was preceded in death by her husband, Marcus Samuel Haldiman and her parents Clarence A. and Amy N. Lammers.  She is survived by her daughters, Kimberly Vaughn, Robin Renee’ Haldiman; three grandchildren, Laura K. Lowry and her husband Robert, Marcus S. Hammerstrom and Sara D. Vaughn and three great-grandchildren.

Mary Lee was born September 14, 1932 in Toledo, Ohio, graduated from Anchorage High School in Anchorage, KY and attended the University of Louisville and University of Kentucky until she married a handsome young Korean war veteran, Marcus Samuel Haldiman on February 1, 1955.

Marc and Mary Lee loved to dance and were members of several dance clubs in Abingdon, Virginia where they lived for many years before relocating to Roanoke. Marc and Mary Lee were married for 28 years until his untimely death in 1983. After moving to Roanoke, Mary Lee became a successful realtor and loved the privilege of finding the perfect home for people. She later worked for Charlton Associates until she retired.

In 1986, she met the second love of her life, Marshall Flamm, who, like Mary Lee, had a great sense of humor. Together they laughed and loved until his death in 2012. In her retirement years, Mary Lee loved her church family at Raleigh Court United Methodist Church and her CHIP family, volunteering for over twenty years at CHIP of Roanoke Valley. She started a donation room there that supplied over four hundred books a month for CHIP children.  She also enjoyed playing bridge, reading, art, music and going to the beach as often as possible. Her great-grandchildren, Ava, Logan and Elise were a special light in her life and she delighted in choosing books for them.

The family would like to thank Rosemary and Brenda who took special care of her last several months of life.

The family will receive friends on Friday, August 9th, 2019 from 5-7pm.  at Oakey’s North Chapel on Peters Creek Rd. A memorial service is scheduled for Saturday, August 10th at 1 pm at Raleigh Court United Methodist Church.   In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to CHIP of Roanoke Valley or Rescue Mission of Roanoke.
