Eloise Sawyer Twist
June 20th, 1922 – November 22nd, 2018
Eloise Sawyer Twist of Roanoke, VA joined her heavenly father on Thanksgiving Day, 2018. She was born June 20, 1922 in Bayboro, NC. Her parents were Hannah Scott Sawyer and Clyde Preston Sawyer. She was preceded in death by her loving husband of 64 years, Luther Atherton Twist, her parents, and a son, Luther Douglas Twist.
Eloise was a member of Raleigh Court United Methodist Church, United Methodist Women, Friendship Sunday School and Thursday morning music club for over 40 years. In her early years, she was employed by the National Youth Administration and National Works Progress Administration. She was also employed by the Virginian Railway Co. in Norfolk, VA. She had a great love for family and friends as well as playing the piano. She shared her talents with her Sunday School class and others.
Survivors include her brother, Curtis Sawyer, New Bern, NC; a daughter, Donna Twist Fitch, Roanoke, VA; grandchildren Charles H Fitch III and wife Sherry, Atlanta, GA; Denise Johnson and husband Glen, Roanoke, VA; and Carla Fitch, Roanoke VA; Great-grandchildren Luke, Jacob and Hannah Johnson, Harrison and Charlie Fitch, Jeffrey Fitch; Nieces Linda Davis, Tennessee; Eileen Irvin, Florida; Connie Springer, North Carolina; and a number of great-nieces and nephews.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Raleigh Court United Methodist Church Foundation, 1706 Grandin Road SW, Roanoke, VA 24015 or a charity of your choice.
Special thanks to the staff at Friendship Health & Rehab South who cared for Eloise for two years. Their kindness and genuine concern gave her comfort. Gratitude is also given to Friendly Home Health and Good Samaritan Hospice.
