Today's Scripture

River Laundry James 2:14 -18

Faith without Works Is Dead

14 What good is it, my brothers and sisters, if you say you have faith but do not have works? Can faith save you? 15 If a brother or sister is naked and lacks daily food, 16 and one of you says to them, “Go in peace; keep warm and eat your fill,” and yet you do not supply their bodily needs, what is the good of that?

What does the passage say?

V. 14 Faith without work can be considered dead faith
V. 15-16 Does our faith remain in words or does it reach out to the need of the people?

What does this passage mean to me/us?

Where do faith and work converge?

We have experienced a divide in Christian faith. On side of the spectrum believes that personal piety and faith, in Christ, is all we need to pursue. The other believes that the love of Jesus should reach out to the world, through actions.
However, we see that the two, which are both essential to our Christian faith, is divided.
We need to find a way to see the two converge. Faith without good work shouldn’t be justified by any means. On the other side, we should caution that good work without faith can fall into a trap of ‘self-righteousness.’
The church might have lost its credibility by separating to the two extremes. Now, wouldn’t it be a time for the two extremes to converge?

Prayer

Lord, help us to see that we are called to become a blessing to the world. Let us understand for us to become a blessing, we will be called to let go of our own thoughts and experiences for your kingdom. Help us to come to the middle and see your plan.
In Christ Name, AMEN.
