Today's Scripture

Prayer Changed Me Psalm 145:8 -21

The Lord is gracious and merciful,
slow to anger and abounding in steadfast love.
The Lord is good to all,
and his compassion is over all that he has made.

10 All your works shall give thanks to you, O Lord,
and all your faithful shall bless you.
11 They shall speak of the glory of your kingdom,
    and tell of your power,
12 to make known to all people your mighty deeds,
and the glorious splendor of your kingdom.
13 Your kingdom is an everlasting kingdom,
and your dominion endures throughout all generations.

The Lord is faithful in all his words,
and gracious in all his deeds.
14 The Lord upholds all who are falling,
and raises up all who are bowed down.
15 The eyes of all look to you,
and you give them their food in due season.
16 You open your hand,
satisfying the desire of every living thing.
17 The Lord is just in all his ways,
and kind in all his doings.
18 The Lord is near to all who call on him,
to all who call on him in truth.
19 He fulfills the desire of all who fear him;
he also hears their cry, and saves them.
20 The Lord watches over all who love him,
but all the wicked he will destroy.

21 My mouth will speak the praise of the Lord,
and all flesh will bless his holy name forever and ever.

RJ's Devotion

What does the passage say?

V. 8-10 God’s grace, mercy, and compassion is to be praised
V. 11-13 God’s grace should be shared with the people, to build the kingdom of God
V. 14-21 God is a faithful God to hear and reach out to the people in need. Therefore, I continue to praise His faithfulness and share it with others.

What does this passage mean to me/us?

I apologize sending out the devotion late for the past two days. Yesterday, we have some technical malfunctions to the system, and today, I am just late.

The Psalmist teaches us a great way to remember God’s faithfulness. Through praise, not only do we lift up God’s name, but we are reminded of His faithfulness. There are times in our life that we are to forget the faithfulness of our Lord. The world and events can distract us to see the goodness of our Lord. The psalm is a great way to help us in our prayers when things get rough. David, who wrote many psalms, went through many tribulations, but many of his prayers start with praising God. (Of course, there are words in the middle of the prayer where he lashes out harsh words toward his enemies. After all, we are all humans) Praising God for God’s faithfulness directs us to go back to our call. Our call to know that we are ‘blessed to be a blessing to others’ (Genesis 12:1-3).
So, what are the things that we need to lift up for praise to our Lord today?

Prayer

Lord, we give thanks to who you are. We might not see it immediately, but that should be a reason to seize praising your good name. Help us to praise your faithfulness today.
In Christ Name, AMEN.
