Today's Scripture

Every Believer’s Call – Galatians 6:1-6

My friends, if anyone is detected in a transgression, you who have received the Spirit should restore such a one in a spirit of gentleness. Take care that you yourselves are not tempted. Bear one another’s burdens, and in this way you will fulfill the law of Christ. For if those who are nothing think they are something, they deceive themselves. All must test their own work; then that work, rather than their neighbor’s work, will become a cause for pride. For all must carry their own loads.

Those who are taught the word must share in all good things with their teacher.

What the passage says

V. 1-2 How we should help others, going through hard times.
V. 3-4 Don’t fall into the rut of pride
V. 5-6 You are blessed so you can become a blessing to others.

What does the passage mean to me/us?

In the previous chapter of Galatians, Paul introduces the fruit of the Spirit.
Now he introduces how to use the fruit for a lifestyle of love and service.
First, he mentions how the believers need to be an agent of ‘restoration.’ Not only for the people who are suffering under the consequence of sin but also for the people who are covered by the burden of life.
Then he shares how our life has to be exemplifying humility.
Then he talks about how we need to carry our own load. Not it sounds like he is contradicting what he says in verse 2. However, the meaning of the load in v. 5 is more like a soldier’s bag, while v. 2 is a weight that can suffocate our lives.
Concluding on why we still need to help others. It is living according to our purpose, which is acknowledging that we are blessed, so we can become a blessing to the world.
The Message describes v. 6 by saying, “Be very sure now, you who have been trained to a self-sufficient maturity, that you enter into a generous common life with those who have trained you, sharing all the good things that you have and experience” (v. 6 The Message).

Prayer

Lord, we are thankful that we can carry our weight of life, most of the time. We are aware that you have surrounded us with people who are willing to carry this load if we are not able to carry it anymore. However, help us to live a lifestyle of helping others to go through time because we know how you blessed us to become a blessing to them. Open our eyes today, so we can see how you want us to be a blessing to others.
In Christ Name we pray, AMEN
