Today's Scripture

Perspectives Matthew 7:1-5

“Do not judge, so that you may not be judged. For with the judgment you make you will be judged, and the measure you give will be the measure you get. Why do you see the speck in your neighbor’s eye, but do not notice the log in your own eye? Or how can you say to your neighbor, ‘Let me take the speck out of your eye,’ while the log is in your own eye? You hypocrite, first take the log out of your own eye, and then you will see clearly to take the speck out of your neighbor’s eye.

What the passage says

V. 1-5 Instead of loving others, we tend to judge others. We forget to see how much God loves them.

What does the passage mean to me/us?

I do have a tendency to judge others, thinking that I might know some areas of improvements, in their lives. When Jesus says, “Why do you see the speck in your neighbor’s eye, but do not notice the log in your own eye?” his words speak directly to me.
Why do I have a tendency to judge others, instead of loving them, according to the Greatest Commandment; Love God and Love others?

There must be many reasons for this tendency. One of the reasons might be, myself forgetting how much God loves them.
No matter what they do, I know the God, who loves me, loves the other person I might be judging.
It will be arrogant and hypocritical to say that God loves me because of what I do, and do not love the person I might judge because of what they are doing.
Maybe, when I become critical, it might be an indication that I need to remind myself, in prayer, of how much God loves me.
Then wouldn’t I be able to love others more, how God intended me to love?

Prayer

Lord, remind us of how much you love us, so we will love others, rather than judging them.
In Christ Name, we pray, AMEN
