Today's Scripture

Power to Persevere Psalm 18:1-6

I love you, O Lord, my strength.
The Lord is my rock, my fortress, and my deliverer,
    my God, my rock in whom I take refuge,
    my shield, and the horn of my salvation, my stronghold.
I call upon the Lord, who is worthy to be praised,
    so I shall be saved from my enemies.

The cords of death encompassed me;
    the torrents of perdition assailed me;
the cords of Sheol entangled me;
    the snares of death confronted me.

In my distress I called upon the Lord;
    to my God I cried for help.
From his temple he heard my voice,
    and my cry to him reached his ears.

RJ's Devotion

What does the passage say?

V. 1-3 The trust we have in the Lord translates into our love for the Lord.
V. 4-5 The world continues to entangle us with the weight of life, and we are so often choked in its weight.
V. 6 We have the confidence to cry out to our Lord, who hears our prayers and delivers us from the snare of death.

What does this passage mean to me/us?

“Christ gives us the power to persevere.”
We trust in Christ in all that we do. However, that trust is essential especially during the time of difficulties.
Having Christ does not exempt from the strangles of the world.
Our trust, in Christ, gives us the strength to endure and overcome all difficulties.
It is during this time that we see the presence of God surrounding us.
It is during this time that our trust in God increases.
Therefore, if anyone is going through tough times, we pray that you will fix your eyes on our Lord, instead of the storm.
Also, if you know a person who is going through a tough time, shine the light of Jesus to them, so we will continue to focus on our Lord today.

Prayer

Lord, we praise you, for you are our rock and salvation. You are the only one we trust. Let us fix our eyes on you. And help us to see how you deliver. In Christ name, we pray, AMEN.
