Today's Scripture

Question #7 – John 15:1-8 Did the Bible live in me today?

“I am the true vine, and my Father is the vinegrower. He removes every branch in me that bears no fruit. Every branch that bears fruit he prunes to make it bear more fruit. You have already been cleansed by the word that I have spoken to you. Abide in me as I abide in you. Just as the branch cannot bear fruit by itself unless it abides in the vine, neither can you unless you abide in me. I am the vine, you are the branches. Those who abide in me and I in them bear much fruit, because apart from me you can do nothing. Whoever does not abide in me is thrown away like a branch and withers; such branches are gathered, thrown into the fire, and burned. If you abide in me, and my words abide in you, ask for whatever you wish, and it will be done for you. My Father is glorified by this, that you bear much fruit and become my disciples.

RJ's Devotion

As we start 2017, we wanted to examine the 22 questions of John Wesley. He challenged his followers to ask these rigorous self-examining questions, as they walk toward holiness. For the next four weeks, we will examine each question, daily. Also, I encourage you to read the ‘One Year Bible Reading Plan’ suggested by Bishop Sharma Lewis.

What the passage says

V. 1-6 Jesus commands his followers to ‘remain’ in him. The reason to remain is to bear fruit.

V. 7-8 The ultimate goal of remaining is for us to be more like Jesus. When we become one, and the word is filled in us, not only that we see God’s will being done in our life, we also see how our life becomes fruitful.

What does the passage say to me/us?

“The Force is with me, and I am one with the Force” – Chrrut Imwe

The Starwars quote successfully depicts what Jesus is asking for us. We need to remain in Jesus. We need to make a deliberate decision to be one with our Lord.
When we are one with Jesus, we also see how our inner being is filled up with his word. The word that is everlasting. The word of God needs to be filled inside us.
How can that happen, if we do not read the word?
How can that happen, if we do not listen to the word both physically and spiritually?

That is the reason why we need to make a deliberate decision to read and remain in the word of God.
When we do so, we are able to see the fruit of God.

Now, it is our time to ask this question, “What’s in your wallet?”… Opps… “What’s in your life?”

Prayer

Lord, help the word of God be alive in us. Help us see the reason why we need to make time to remain in your word. Help us to secure that time with you. Help us to be transformed during that time. Help us to meet you.
In Christ name, AMEN.
