Today's Scripture

Discernment 2 Timothy 3:14-17

14 But as for you, continue in what you have learned and firmly believed, knowing from whom you learned it, 15 and how from childhood you have known the sacred writings that are able to instruct you for salvation through faith in Christ Jesus. 16 All scripture is inspired by God and is useful for teaching, for reproof, for correction, and for training in righteousness, 17 so that everyone who belongs to God may be proficient, equipped for every good work.

What does the passage say?

V. 14 -15 Paul tells Timothy to stay firm in faith. To remember what he learned and who he learned it from. Holding on to the truth that brings true salvation.
V. 16-17 He continues to emphasize on how important it is to have the knowledge of Scripture. Scripture is the foundation to continue the mission of God.

What does this passage say to me/us?

I would like to start with an apology. Last, Tuesday evening, my MacBook crashed. This happened to me a year ago, and maybe it might be time.
Since I was on the road, it was difficult for me to access other computers.
In today’s passage, Paul encourages Timothy not to be discouraged. The Message Bible says, “ But don’t let it faze you” (v. 14 The Message).
Paul is saying, even though the “Unscrupulous con men will continue to exploit the faith” (v. 13 The Message), do not be discouraged.
He says, ‘hold onto your faith’ and ‘read the scripture’ that equips you for God’s mission.

I do have to admit, I might have been going through series of events that discouraged me.
It might not have been from particular ‘unscrupulous con men,’ but it had definitely come from the one, who is constantly blocking God’s mission.
In this time, the charge of Paul encourages me. Knowing that Paul must have gone through does times, and he is sharing his wisdom on how to get out of it.
Holding on to the faith, that was passed on, and diving into the Scripture is what God is calling me to do.
Praying for more faith and obedience.

Prayer

Lord, give me the faith to hold onto your truth. In Christ name, AMEN.
