Today's Scripture
Ezekiel 3:1-8
He said to me, O mortal, eat what is offered to you; eat this scroll, and go, speak to the house of Israel. 2 So I opened my mouth, and he gave me the scroll to eat. 3 He said to me, Mortal, eat this scroll that I give you and fill your stomach with it. Then I ate it; and in my mouth it was as sweet as honey.
4 He said to me: Mortal, go to the house of Israel and speak my very words to them. 5 For you are not sent to a people of obscure speech and difficult language, but to the house of Israel— 6 not to many peoples of obscure speech and difficult language, whose words you cannot understand. Surely, if I sent you to them, they would listen to you. 7 But the house of Israel will not listen to you, for they are not willing to listen to me; because all the house of Israel have a hard forehead and a stubborn heart.

What does the passage say?
V. 1-3 God is sending Ezekiel to share God’s message to God’s people. However, there is a prerequisite. Ezekiel has to fill himself with God’s word, in order to share it with others.
V. 4-8 Even though Ezekiel is sent to God’s people, we know how God says that the people will not hear God’s message. Regardless of them listening, God still sends Ezekiel to share the word of God.
What does this passage mean to me/us?
Like I mentioned in my sermon, we will use this time to read along the One year Bible challenge, through the book of Ezekiel.
God plans to send Ezekiel to God’s people and God needs to equip him with God’s word.
God asks Ezekiel to eat the scroll to fill him with God’s message, and Ezekiel eats the scroll, literally, and he says the word of God was like honey.
We see two points in this story. First, we see the obedience and love that Ezekiel displays.
Of course, I believe that the presence of God would have overwhelmed him, but at the same time, through the Bible, we see how true obedience is a result of the trust and love one has for God.
We also see how the word of God is described as sweet as honey. When most Christians consider the word something boring or rigid laws that we bearly keep up with, Ezekiel’s response to the word challenges us to reexamine our attitude toward the word of God.
Psalm 119: 103-104 says, “How sweet are your words to my taste, sweeter than honey to my mouth.”
Prayer
Lord, help us to long and desire to learn and be filled with your word and your word only. And use us for your glory, to shine the light of Jesus in this world, who cover their ears from your message. Let us also see how your word prevails. In Christ Name, AMEN.
