Today's Scripture

Marvel at God’s Love Jeremiah 29:10-14

10 For thus says the Lord: Only when Babylon’s seventy years are completed will I visit you, and I will fulfill to you my promise and bring you back to this place. 11 For surely I know the plans I have for you, says the Lord, plans for your welfare and not for harm, to give you a future with hope. 12 Then when you call upon me and come and pray to me, I will hear you. 13 When you search for me, you will find me; if you seek me with all your heart, 14 I will let you find me, says the Lord, and I will restore your fortunes and gather you from all the nations and all the places where I have driven you, says the Lord, and I will bring you back to the place from which I sent you into exile.

What does the passage say?

V.10-11 The Lord declares that the Israelites will be in slavery of the Babylonia for seventy years. However, it doesn’t mean that hope for this nation is wiped away.
V. 12-14 Then, after the seventy years, the Lord promises restoration. When the people of God searches, God promises that God will answer and find them.

What does this passage mean to me/us?

‘When God is sleeping in the storm’

Lately, I have been reflecting on why Jesus was sleeping in the boat, during the storm.

If Jonah was sleeping because of avoidance of his call, wouldn’t Jesus have a reason too? During a meeting with one of our members, God gave me an insight. For me, it seemed like Jesus was sleeping, slightly ignoring the chaos in the boat, waiting for the disciples to call; relying on Jesus.

In God’s point of view, there needs to be a period of silence. Why God needs silence will vary. Maybe God needs time for the people to go through a certain period of justice or maybe God is waiting for the people to be desperate to rely on God.

When that time comes, God promises to answer when the people search for God. And God promises to restore and promises that God has a plan for God’s people.

When God’s silence will end is not up to us. It is solely God’s decision and authority. There is only one thing that is permitted to us.
To desperately seek God. Trusting the promise, when we call on to God that God will answer.

Prayer

Lord, it is so difficult when you are silent. However, give us the patience to trust in your time and plan. Be with us, so we can trust in you and seek you.
In Christ name, we pray, AMEN.
