Today's Scripture

TODAY’S READING SCHEDULE: 2 Samuel 12-13; 1 John 3

What we are invited to be part of – 1 John 3:1-6

See what kind of love the Father has given to us in that we should be called God’s children, and that is what we are! Because the world didn’t recognize him, it doesn’t recognize us.

Dear friends, now we are God’s children, and it hasn’t yet appeared what we will be. We know that when he appears we will be like him because we’ll see him as he is. And all who have this hope in him purify themselves even as he is pure. Every person who practices sin commits an act of rebellion, and sin is rebellion. You know that he appeared to take away sins, and there is no sin in him. Every person who remains in relationship to him does not sin. Any person who sins has not seen him or known him.

What does this passage mean to me/us?

We are called to be God’s children! God paid the price for that impossible notion to become possible. However, we don’t realize the true meaning of that grace, and so often remain in sin. Being a sinner doesn’t mean that we are an immoral person. Of course, being immoral is include in the notion of being a sinner, but sin has a broader connotation. Being in sin, therefore, mean that we are not in an authentic relationship with Jesus Christ, who has the power to take away all our sins. As children of God, we are called to remain in Him, remain in the relationship with our Lord. When we are in that relationship, there is no space for sin to separate us from that love. However, when we are not remaining in that relationship, we might still be in sin, following our own will, instead of our Lord.

Prayer

Lord, forgive us for being distracted and loving the world more than you. Help us to focus on your love and love you more.   In Christ name we pray, Amen.
