Today's Scripture

Love never ends – Hosea 3

TODAY’S READING SCHEDULE: Hosea 1-7

The Lord said to me, “Go, show your love to your wife again, though she is loved by another man and is an adulteress. Love her as the Lord loves the Israelites, though they turn to other gods and love the sacred raisin cakes.”

So I bought her for fifteen shekels[n] of silver and about a homer and a lethek[o] of barley. Then I told her, “You are to live with me many days; you must not be a prostitute or be intimate with any man, and I will behave the same way toward you.”

For the Israelites will live many days without king or prince, without sacrifice or sacred stones, without ephodor household gods. Afterward the Israelites will return and seek the Lord their God and David their king. They will come trembling to the Lord and to his blessings in the last days.

What does this passage mean to me/us

The story of Hosea shocks us in many different ways. The obedience of the prophet amazes us.
The ignorance of Gomer blows us away. More than anything, we should be able to see the love of God, shared in this story.

Let me ask you a question. Do you think God truly loved Gomer?
A woman, who was reckless in her actions? A woman, even in human eyes were bound to be condemned?

I believe God deeply loved this woman.
Even though she lived only following her will, it didn’t change God’s love.
The love was overflowing that God commanded Hosea to love her, and Hosea was able to love her regardless of her actions.
Not because he was a saint, but because he received and understood the love God had for her.
That is the reason why we need to fully experience God’s love.
God pours out God’s love to ones who earnestly seek for God’s love.

Prayer

Lord, help us to love like you.  In Christ name, AMEN.
