TODAY’S READING SCHEDULE: 1 Kings 22, 2 Chronicles 18
Micaiah Predicts Failure
Now Jehoshaphat had great riches and honor; and he made a marriage alliance with Ahab. 2 After some years he went down to Ahab in Samaria. Ahab slaughtered an abundance of sheep and oxen for him and for the people who were with him, and induced him to go up against Ramoth-gilead. 3 King Ahab of Israel said to King Jehoshaphat of Judah, “Will you go with me to Ramoth-gilead?” He answered him, “I am with you, my people are your people. We will be with you in the war.”
4 But Jehoshaphat also said to the king of Israel, “Inquire first for the word of the Lord.”
What does this passage mean to me/us
This accounting of King Ahab of Israel and King Jehoshaphat of Judah reads like a modern-day soap opera, reminding us that over many years situations may be different, but the people are basically the same. The kings wanted input on a decision about going into battle from their advisors (prophets) however, the King of Judah insisted on input from the prophet of the Lord. Do we look to our friends for input on our decisions or do we ask, listen, wait and follow input from the Lord?
Prayer
Dear Lord, Please help us to focus on your leading rather than following people, so we can truly see how you will lead us along the path we should follow. In Jesus name we pray, Amen.
