I RAISE MY EYES – PSALM 121
TODAY’S READING SCHEDULE: PSALM 121 PSALM 123-125 PSALM 128-130 (CEB)
I raise my eyes toward the mountains.
Where will my help come from?
2 My help comes from the Lord,
the maker of heaven and earth.
3 God won’t let your foot slip.
Your protector won’t fall asleep on the job.
4 No! Israel’s protector
never sleeps or rests!
5 The Lord is your protector;
the Lord is your shade right beside you.
6 The sun won’t strike you during the day;
neither will the moon at night.
7 The Lord will protect you from all evil;
God will protect your very life.
8 The Lord will protect you on your journeys—
whether going or coming—
from now until forever from now.

What Does the passage Mean to Me/US?
When the world hits us with difficulties we often feel like we are sailing through the storm. We lose our sight and sometimes, even the hope of getting through the storm safely. These are times when we become discouraged.
The time David was running away from Saul, it was a time he was sailing through the storm.
We wonder, ‘how did David endure the difficulties and continued to trust in the Lord?’
We see the answer in Psalm 121, he fixed his eyes on the Lord.
Instead of his heart being downcast and sight being distracted by the storm, he ‘raised his eyes to the mountains.’
It was a reminder to see his creator. It was a reminder to see the promise. It was the reminder how God will make it happen. We see how David continues to remind himself, when we say, in Psalm 42:5,
“Why, my soul, are you downcast?
Why so disturbed within me?
Put your hope in God,
for I will yet praise him,
my Savior and my God.”
Lift your eyes to the mountain and see the creator.
Prayer
Lord, we fix our eyes on you. Show us your presence in our lives. In Christ name, we pray, AMEN.
