“On the plains of Moab by the Jordan across from Jericho the Lord said to Moses, “Speak to the Israelites and say to them: ‘When you cross the Jordan into Canaan, drive out all the inhabitants of the land before you. Destroy all their carved images and their cast idols, and demolish all their high places. Take possession of the land and settle in it, for I have given you the land to possess.”

What Does the passage Mean to Me/US?

The Israelites, having been freed from their bondage of slavery in Egypt, began their journey to the promised land God had given them in Canaan. There is a brief review of the travels of the children of Israel through the wilderness in this 33rd chapter of Numbers. God led the Israelites thru all the 40 years in the wilderness and He led them the right way, His way. God desires our obedience and He leads each of us to right living, which should always honor Him. But we must follow and we must live our lives, working hard to not be enticed by what the world offers. God told His children to drive out the evil people and to destroy all of the idols that were in Canaan when they arrived. God expected His people to follow Him and do as He told them. We must do the same in our faith walk. We must seek God, turn away from evil and temptation, and give Him all of ourselves.

Prayer

Dear Heavenly Father, You love us so much and want the best for us. It is our desire to be Your obedient children. We turn to you each day, asking for your guidance in our lives, and we ask You to show us how to live in the way of righteousness. We love you! In Christ’s name, we pray, AMEN
