Memorial Celebration for Phyllis Keller Wampler Monday, July 17, 2017 Raleigh Court United Methodist Church Special Musical Prelude begins at 1 PM, Service begins at 2 PM.Special Music will be provided by the choir of Raleigh Court United Methodist Church and many musicians who knew and loved Phyllis. Those who would like to sing with the choir are welcome to join us. There will be a choir rehearsal at 11:30 AM on July 17th followed by snacks and a social gathering prior to 1:00. Please contact Debra LeBrun at debra@rcumc.org if you want to sing with the choir. The Memorial service will be followed by a reception at the church. Phyllis Keller Wampler of Roanoke, Virginia, died June 28, 2017. Phyllis was born in Buena Vista, Virginia on February 2, 1928. She was a graduate of Parry McCluer High School, Buena Vista, Va, Southern Seminary and Junior College, Buena Vista, Va and Westminster Choir College, Princeton, New Jersey.
Phyllis held the position of Minister of Music at Central Methodist, Clifton Forge, Va, beginning in 1951, at Belmont Baptist Church, Roanoke, Va, Windsor Hills Methodist, Roanoke, Va, First United Methodist Church, Martinsville, Va, Beymer Memorial Methodist Church, Winter Haven, Fl. Her last position before retiring was as Minister of Music at Raleigh Court United Methodist Church, Roanoke, Va, which she held from 1979-2008 for 29 years. Phyllis was preceded in death by her Grandfather, Thomas Walker, a Methodist minister in the Holston Conference, her parents Guy O. Keller and Laura Louise Walker Keller, a brother, Guy O. Keller, Jr. and sisters, Virginia Thomas Keller and Louise K.Easton. She is survived by two children, Laura J. Morgan and husband Sam of Creedmoor, NC, son James H. Jennings III, and wife, Jeanette of Culpeper, VA and two grandchildren, Jennifer M. Allton and husband Rob and Jeffrey Walker Morgan. She is survived by her sister Jean K. Berkelman of Melrose, Fl, and Jack Easton, husband of Louise, of Charlottesville, Va., Bev Keller, wife of Guy, and cousin Harriett Mullins of Roanoke, VA. She was also survived by a loving caretaker, Edwina Cannaday, and countless friends who loved her as their own. A remembrance celebration will be held at Raleigh Court United Methodist Church, 1706 Grandin Rd. Roanoke on July 17 with a Music Prelude at 1:00 followed by the Service at 2:00. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Music Fund at Raleigh Court United Methodist Church in honor of her 57 years as a Director of Music. |
