Director of NEXT GEN. Ministries
The Director of Next Gen. Ministries will have the responsibility of teaching, guiding, and directing children and students, from birth through high school, about the Christian faith. The right candidate for this position will be an inspirational self-starter who has a vision and knows how to share that vision with other leaders and get them excited and eager to carry it out. This person should have a real love for children and students and a desire to ensure they know the love of God. The Director of Next Generation Ministries will work under the supervision of the Senior Pastor and have many volunteers under his/her direct leadership.

Job purpose:
- The Director of Next Generation Ministries (DNGM) will be an enthusiastic Christian with a passion for working with people of all ages and a strong ability to direct and delegate a corps of volunteers. This person will have the organizational and communication skills, education, and experience required to work successfully with church leadership, the children’s and youth ministries, and church members. Furthermore, s/he will be able to develop, implement, and oversee children and youth programs in support of the ministry of RCUMC. S/He will comprehensively approach the development and implementation of the children and youth ministries at all levels in the connectional system of The United Methodist Church and in all ministry areas of the local church. This comprehensive approach is based on the understanding of the primary tasks of children and youth ministries to:
- love children and youth where they are
- encourage children and youth in developing their relationships with God
- provide them with opportunities for nurture and growth
- challenge them to respond to God’s call to serve in their communities and world
Experience, Competencies, and Education:
- Demonstrated vibrant Christian faith, knowledge of the Bible, and a strong public discipleship; Familiarity with United Methodist Church teachings a plus
- Self-directed and highly independent but able to function as a team player and maintain positive working relationships
- Able to inspire, direct, and motivate children, youth, and their families
- Experience working with diverse cultures
- Excellent organizational, planning, goal-setting, and time management skills
- Creative ability to envision, plan, and follow-through on the Church’s mission in relation to children
- A minimum of 3+ years’ experience in children, youth, and/or family ministries or related fields
- Knowledge of child and youth development
- BA degree; related field preferred
- Willingness to complete lay-certified ministry training
- Embrace Christian discipline and United Methodist doctrine and theology.
- Vision and a demonstrated ability to plan, develop, coordinate, manage, and implement children and youth ministries within the parameters of The United Methodist Church.
- Proven ability to work effectively with children, youth, diverse individuals, and teams of volunteers.
- Strong administrative skills, Budgeting skills, Competency in Microsoft Office Suite, including Excel spreadsheets.
