A Spiritual Family – Ecclesiastes 3:1-8
For everything there is a season, and a time for every matter under heaven:
2 a time to be born, and a time to die;
a time to plant, and a time to pluck up what is planted;
3 a time to kill, and a time to heal;
a time to break down, and a time to build up;
4 a time to weep, and a time to laugh;
a time to mourn, and a time to dance;
5 a time to throw away stones, and a time to gather stones together;
a time to embrace, and a time to refrain from embracing;
6 a time to seek, and a time to lose;
a time to keep, and a time to throw away;
7 a time to tear, and a time to sew;
a time to keep silence, and a time to speak;
8 a time to love, and a time to hate;
a time for war, and a time for peace.
What does the Passage say?
Proverbs, Songs of Songs, Ecclesiastes are called the wisdom literature by King Solomon. There is a saying to have the people in their ’20s to read Songs of songs, 30s read Proverbs, and 40s read Ecclesiastes.’ Meaning that tEcclesiastes give wisdom to us about life.
V. 1-8 There is a time for everything. We need to have the wisdom to discern the reason and the purpose of the timely events. It also means that we are not in control, but rather have to be accepting what is happening.
What does the Passage say to me/us?
We live in an era where we are thrusting for control. However, the wiser we become, the easier we figure out that time and what happens is ultimately in the hands of God.
We need to start with accepting the fact that we can’t control time. However, this also means that we need to have to wisdom to gain insights, from God, to know the right time. Accepting this truth will help us to follow where God is leading us, and fulfill God’s purpose in this world. Our human efforts to surpass the timing and plan are vain. Knowing this offer us tremendous freedom to see and follow what God is doing.
Today reflect on the time and season you are in.
Are you fully embracing this time?
What does God want you to learn from this season? Are you following it?
Prayer
Lord, give us the discernment to see your timing. Help us to learn from this season, and continue to follow you.
In Christ Name we pray, AMEN.
