Today's Scripture
Unchanging Values Micah 6: 6 – 8
6 “With what shall I come before the Lord,
and bow myself before God on high?
Shall I come before him with burnt offerings,
with calves a year old?
7 Will the Lord be pleased with thousands of rams,
with ten thousands of rivers of oil?
Shall I give my firstborn for my transgression,
the fruit of my body for the sin of my soul?”
8 He has told you, O mortal, what is good;
and what does the Lord require of you
but to do justice, and to love kindness,
and to walk humbly with your God?

What the passage says
V. 6-7 Does bringing a material offering to God satisfy God? Those that fulfill our act of worship?
V. 8 Offering our life as a living sacrifice to the world, honoring our Lord is more important.
What does the passage mean to me/us?
If we give to God without our heart, God will not receive our offering.
If we give to God without our life, reflecting God’s glory in the world, God will not receive our offering.
That is why Micah, a prophet of Judea, rebuked the people of God who were going through the motion of worship. They even extending their worship to the idols of that time.
When worship is what we do, completely disconnected from our lives, God does not receive our worship.
God instructs us on what the outcome of our worship should look.
“It’s quite simple: Do what is fair and just to your neighbor, be compassionate and loyal in your love,
And don’t take yourself too seriously—take God seriously” (v. 8 The Message).
Worship is a time where we offer our lives to God, as a living sacrifice. When our worship finds its true purpose, we will be able to fulfill our purpose in this world.
Prayer
Lord, help us to worship you with all that we have. Restore our heart of worship.
As we love you more, help us to love others for the transformation of the world.
In Christ Name, we pray, AMEN
