Today's Scripture
We are Family – Romans 8:14-17
14 For all who are led by the Spirit of God are children of God. 15 For you did not receive a spirit of slavery to fall back into fear, but you have received a spirit of adoption. When we cry, “Abba! Father!” 16 it is that very Spirit bearing witness with our spirit that we are children of God, 17 and if children, then heirs, heirs of God and joint heirs with Christ—if, in fact, we suffer with him so that we may also be glorified with him.

What the passage says
V. 14-16 The sign of us being God’s children is testified through the Spirit. Paul describes the traits of people who are led by the Spirit. They do not fear. They are confident in the truth of being God’s children.
V. 17 With the Spirit, we have a new identity, in Christ. We participate in Christ’s sacrifice and glory.
What does the passage say to me/us?
When we accept Jesus Christ as our Lord and Savior, we need to recognize; it is only possible because of the guidance of the Spirit. Through the Spirit, we encounter the grace that is poured out through Jesus Christ, and we see how our identity transforms. We are no longer a slave to sin but adopted as a child of God.
What an amazing transformation did we all undergo? What a privilege to be invited to live in this world as God’s children?
However, the question is… ‘How am I living in this world with the confidence of being a child of God? Am I participating in the suffering of our Lord?’
Participating in God’s suffering doesn’t mean that we need to give up our lives for God.
It is to live and profess that God means more than anything else, in our lives. Testifying, through our life, that what we have a relationship with God that is worthy than anything else, in this world. When we live in that lifestyle, which I would see more as ‘seeking God’s kingdom first’ lifestyle, we will see that sacrifice is not much of a sacrifice anymore.
It becomes a honor, knowing that we play an important part in God’s plan.
Prayer
Lord, help us to see sacrifice as participating in your glory. May you be glorified through us, as we live in this life, as your children.
In Christ name, we pray, AMEN
