Today's Scripture
Guidance and Hope – Psalm 21:1-10
1 In your strength the king rejoices, O Lord,
and in your help how greatly he exults!
2 You have given him his heart’s desire,
and have not withheld the request of his lips.Selah
3 For you meet him with rich blessings;
you set a crown of fine gold on his head.
4 He asked you for life; you gave it to him—
length of days forever and ever.
5 His glory is great through your help;
splendor and majesty you bestow on him.
6 You bestow on him blessings forever;
you make him glad with the joy of your presence.
7 For the king trusts in the Lord,
and through the steadfast love of the Most High he shall not be moved.
8 Your hand will find out all your enemies;
your right hand will find out those who hate you.
9 You will make them like a fiery furnace
when you appear.
The Lord will swallow them up in his wrath,
and fire will consume them.
10 You will destroy their offspring from the earth,
and their children from among humankind.

What the passage says
V. 1-2 King David praises the blessings he received from the Lord
V. 3-6 David reminisces on how the Lord came to him with rich blessings, and even all the things that David had requested was received.
V. 7-10 When David trust in the Lord, he praises how the Lord worked in his life.
What does the passage say to me/us?
We need to remember the life of David. Was it truly a life full of blessings?
For many years, he was a fugitive running away from the rage of his king.
He was able to make Israel one of the most powerful nations, at that time, but we need to remember that it came from countless wars and battles.
While he was on the battlefield, even though he must have been confident about the provision of the Lord, he must have felt distressed.
What am I trying to say?
For King David, despite all the difficulties he went through, he was able to look back at his life and point out the goodness of the Lord.
He could have chosen to focus on the agony he endured to get to the point of his life, but instead, he praises God for all God has done for him.
That is what we need to do. If we dwell on the hardship we are experiencing, it will be hard to praise our Lord.
However, when we focus on the praise, we will be able to see the Lord, who is always working in our lives, and who will continue to work in our lives.
Prayer
Lord, help us to focus our eyes on you. Help us to praise you with our soul. Help us to live for your glory today.
In your name, we pray. AMEN
