Today's Scripture
A Simple Life 1 Timothy 6:6-12
6 But godliness with contentment is great gain. 7 For we brought nothing into the world, and we can take nothing out of it. 8 But if we have food and clothing, we will be content with that. 9 Those who want to get rich fall into temptation and a trapand into many foolish and harmful desires that plunge people into ruin and destruction. 10 For the love of money is a root of all kinds of evil. Some people, eager for money, have wandered from the faith and pierced themselves with many griefs.
Final Charge to Timothy
11 But you, man of God, flee from all this, and pursue righteousness, godliness, faith, love, endurance and gentleness. 12 Fight the good fight of the faith. Take hold of the eternal life to which you were called when you made your good confession in the presence of many witnesses.

What does the passage say?
V. 6-9 Living in contentment is a better gain than being rich.
V. 10 The love of money can be evil.
V. 11-12 Fight the good fight focusing on the eternal focus.
What does this passage mean to me/us?
The perspective to see that contentment is a better gain than having all riches is such a true statement.
We see people who might seem to have it all, but they are filled with worries and desire to have more.
However, if we can achieve the goal of being content, our lives can change.
At the same time, I do have to say, even though the goal of being content has been achieved, the world will continue to drag us off the road of contentment. That is why Paul calls it a good fight.
The fight continues until we see our Lord face to face.
The challenge will be still focusing on that goal, even in times when it seems to get tight.
Prayer
Lord, help us to see that the true focus in life is more about your kingdom, and the time we see you face to face. In times when it seems like the world is attacking us, especially through financial strife, be with us. Be with us so we can gain one of the hardest mysteries of faith; contentment. In Christ name, we pray, AMEN.
