Today's Scripture

Question #3. Do I confidentially pass on to another what was told to me in confidence? – Philippians 4:8-9

Finally, beloved, whatever is true, whatever is honorable, whatever is just, whatever is pure, whatever is pleasing, whatever is commendable, if there is any excellence and if there is anything worthy of praise, think about these things. Keep on doing the things that you have learned and received and heard and seen in me, and the God of peace will be with you.

RJ's Devotion

As we start 2017, we wanted to examine the 22 questions of John Wesley. He challenged his followers to ask these rigorous self-examining questions, as they walk toward holiness. For the next four weeks, we will examine each question, daily. Also, I encourage you to read the ‘One Year Bible Reading Plan’ suggested by Bishop Sharma Lewis.

What the passage says

V. 8-9 Paul is challenging the followers to do what is right and honorable. Eugene Peterson describes it by saying, “I’d say you’ll do best by filling your minds and meditating on things true, noble, reputable, authentic, compelling, gracious—the best,” (v. 8 The Message). What happens when Christians are faithful to their call? The peace of God is with them.

What does the passage say to me/us?

Keeping confidence can also be understood as being trustworthy. How many times do we see the trust break, when our confidence between each other melts. Keeping confidence is not only being discreet about confidential information but also keeping the trust between each other.

When we strive to become trustworthy, we will see how God works through us, and how the peace of God is shared with one another.
It is what we need to work on.

Prayer

Lord, we want to become a trustworthy servant of your Kingdom. We also want to be a trustworthy companion to others, in our lives. Help us to work on building that trust with others. Give us the wisdom and integrity to do your will.
In Christ name, AMEN.
