Today's Scripture

Like Thomas Matthew 14:22-33

22 Immediately he made the disciples get into the boat and go on ahead to the other side, while he dismissed the crowds. 23 And after he had dismissed the crowds, he went up the mountain by himself to pray. When evening came, he was there alone, 24 but by this time the boat, battered by the waves, was far from the land, for the wind was against them. 25 And early in the morning he came walking toward them on the sea. 26 But when the disciples saw him walking on the sea, they were terrified, saying, “It is a ghost!” And they cried out in fear. 27 But immediately Jesus spoke to them and said, “Take heart, it is I; do not be afraid.”

28 Peter answered him, “Lord, if it is you, command me to come to you on the water.” 29 He said, “Come.” So Peter got out of the boat, started walking on the water, and came toward Jesus. 30 But when he noticed the strong wind, he became frightened, and beginning to sink, he cried out, “Lord, save me!” 31 Jesus immediately reached out his hand and caught him, saying to him, “You of little faith, why did you doubt?” 32 When they got into the boat, the wind ceased. 33 And those in the boat worshiped him, saying, “Truly you are the Son of God.”

 WHAT DOES THE PASSAGE say?

V. 22-23 After feeding 5,000+ people, Jesus sends his disciples away to have a personal time with his Lord.
V. 24-27 When he came to his disciples, they were battling a storm. On top of that, he was walking on water. It is natural that they were afraid.
V. 28-30 Peter asks Jesus if he could walk out of the boat and walk on water with him, and Jesus allows him to come. Peter walks on water, for a while, until he takes his eyes off Jesus; he sinks.
V. 31-33 Jesus grabs him by hand and rebukes him of his lack of faith.

What Does the passage Mean to Me/US?

Before we start, I wanted to share that our blog was ranked as the top 35 Methodist blogs, by Feedspot!
I don’t know about the quality of the blog, but more because of the quantity of sending out posts every Mon-Friday.
This is possible because of you who read the post, share it, and also text me when it doesn’t come.

Thank you!!!

It is so easy to take our eyes away from Jesus. We get distracted by the world, and we become prone to doubt.
Remember the disciples, they saw Jesus perform a miracle of feeding 5,000+ people and they still were afraid.
That is the reason why we need to focus our eyes on to Jesus 24 hrs a day.
How do we do so?
We need to focus our eyes on our Lord, both personally and in a community.

I practice saying ‘Lord,’ several times throughout the day.
When I sit and when I stand, before I do a task and when I end, and in many different ways.
I try to start my day by spending some with God and try to end it with a time to reflect on what God did throughout my day.
However, my personal discipline will not last, if I am not in a community of faith.
The community of faith challenges me to continue my efforts to focus my eyes on the Lord.
When we do this together, not only that it is easier, but also we will be able to help others to see our Lord clearly.

Prayer

Lord, help us to focus our eyes onto you only. In Christ Name, we pray, AMEN
