Diligence – Romans 12:6-8
6 We have gifts that differ according to the grace given to us: prophecy, in proportion to faith; 7 ministry, in ministering; the teacher, in teaching; 8 the exhorter, in exhortation; the giver, in generosity; the leader, in diligence; the compassionate, in cheerfulness.
What the passage says
V. 6 Our gifts all differ, and we need to find a way to use them in harmony
V.7-8 The Message version elaborates the command by saying, “ If you preach, just preach God’s Message, nothing else; if you help, just help, don’t take over; if you teach, stick to your teaching; if you give encouraging guidance, be careful that you don’t get bossy; if you’re put in charge, don’t manipulate; if you’re called to give aid to people in distress, keep your eyes open and be quick to respond; if you work with the disadvantaged, don’t let yourself get irritated with them or depressed by them. Keep a smile on your face.”
What does the passage say to me/us?
God entrusted these gifts to be used in the church and our work. The people of God, who is entrusted by these gifts are the ones responsible for using them in a trustworthy way.
Am I faithful to the gift and talents God entrusted me?
Am I using it for my glory, instead of our Lord’s?
Prayer
Lord, give us a pure heart. Help us to see your will and use our gifts for your glory and your glory only.
In Christ name, AMEN.
