Today's Scripture

My Worst Day – Isaiah 6:1-10

In the year that King Uzziah died, I saw the Lord, high and exalted, seated on a throne; and the train of his robe filled the temple. Above him were seraphim, each with six wings: With two wings they covered their faces, with two they covered their feet, and with two they were flying. And they were calling to one another:

“Holy, holy, holy is the Lord Almighty;
    the whole earth is full of his glory.”

At the sound of their voices the doorposts and thresholds shook and the temple was filled with smoke.

“Woe to me!” I cried. “I am ruined! For I am a man of unclean lips, and I live among a people of unclean lips, and my eyes have seen the King, the Lord Almighty.”

Then one of the seraphim flew to me with a live coal in his hand, which he had taken with tongs from the altar. With it he touched my mouth and said, “See, this has touched your lips; your guilt is taken away and your sin atoned for.”

Then I heard the voice of the Lord saying, “Whom shall I send? And who will go for us?”

And I said, “Here am I. Send me!”

He said, “Go and tell this people:

“‘Be ever hearing, but never understanding;
    be ever seeing, but never perceiving.’
10 Make the heart of this people calloused;
    make their ears dull
    and close their eyes.
Otherwise they might see with their eyes,
    hear with their ears,
    understand with their hearts,
and turn and be healed.”

What the passage says

V. 1-4 Isaiah sees the glory of God.
V. 5-6 He is terrified, because of the glory reveals his sin and weakness. The Seraphim flies down and touches his lips, the part he proclaims to be the most unclean part of him, which God will use the most, with a coal to make him clean and free of guilt.
V. 7-8 Then the voice of the Lord fills the room, ‘Whom shall I send.’ Isaiah responded, “Lord, here am I, send me.”
V. 9-10 The call to God is quite astonishing. God says, go and tell the people, but they won’t listen. Because ultimately they will have to be run out of the city.

What does the passage say to me/us?

Are we anticipating God’s glory to be revealed in our lives?

It will be a moment when we are exposed to our weakness. It will be a moment when we will see how we did not follow God’s will.
However, God is gracious and just, like he sent the Seraphim to atone the iniquity of Isaiah, God sends Jesus Christ. When we believe in him, we see how God touches our life to restore us.

Then the call of God asks, “Whom shall I send.” This is a call to live according to God’s will. This is a calling to live as a blessing to the world.
In our eyes, what God is saying does not make sense. The Message says, “Go and tell this people: ‘Listen hard, but you aren’t going to get it; look hard, but you won’t catch on.’ Make these people blockheads, with fingers in their ears and blindfolds on their eyes, So they won’t see a thing, won’t hear a word. So they won’t have a clue about what’s going on and, yes, so they won’t turn around and be made whole.”
The word of God seems to be horrible, in our thoughts. God is sending someone to do what seems to be opposite of what we think should be right. However, Isaiah did what God called him to do because his call was following God’s will. And he knew, there should be a reason for this, and yes there was. This was a way for God to prepare a way for Jesus Christ.
The real question is, what is God asking us in our lives?
Because it is God’s will can we follow? regardless of the call being right or wrong?
It is not about right or wrong, but about the willingness to follow.

 “Father, if you are willing, remove this cup from me; yet, not my will but yours be done.” Luke 22:42

Prayer

Lord, helps us to know your will. Help us to lay down our thoughts and follow your will. Help us to shine your glory in the world.

In Christ, we pray, AMEN
