Today's Scripture
TODAY’S READING SCHEDULE: 2 Chronicles 28-29; Luke 10:1-24
Scripture: 1 Corinthians 15:1-11
Brothers and sisters, I want to call your attention to the good news that I preached to you, which you also received and in which you stand. 2 You are being saved through it if you hold on to the message I preached to you, unless somehow you believed it for nothing. 3 I passed on to you as most important what I also received: Christ died for our sins in line with the scriptures, 4 he was buried, and he rose on the third day in line with the scriptures. 5 He appeared to Cephas, then to the Twelve, 6 and then he appeared to more than five hundred brothers and sisters at once—most of them are still alive to this day, though some have died. 7 Then he appeared to James, then to all the apostles, 8 and last of all he appeared to me, as if I were born at the wrong time. 9 I’m the least important of the apostles. I don’t deserve to be called an apostle, because I harassed God’s church. 10 I am what I am by God’s grace, and God’s grace hasn’t been for nothing. In fact, I have worked harder than all the others—that is, it wasn’t me but the grace of God that is with me. 11 So then, whether you heard the message from me or them, this is what we preach and this is what you have believed.
What does this passage mean to me/us?
Contributed by Sarah Pero
It was 28 years ago, on this day, that David Paul Pero arrived into this world. Unlike his older brother who cried loudly and persistently after he was born, our David was a much quieter soul. He was warm, cuddly, and content. It makes me wonder what Jesus was like the day He was born. Did He fuss and cry loudly or was He easily consoled and quiet? Mary cared for her Son and taught Him how to navigate this world. When he was 30 years old when He went out to minister to mankind, and then later died on the cross for our freedom from sin. Each of us is born into this world, live all the years that we are given, and finally die to this life and pass on to our heavenly home. This is the basis of our faith – that there is hope in eternal life due to the saving grace of Jesus Christ.
Mary may not have been able to comprehend what being the mother of the Messiah would truly be like until she lived it. It is thought that Mary lived to about the age of 64 years. What was life like for Mary after her son, Jesus, was crucified, raised from the dead three days later, and then later ascended to His Heavenly Father. Surely she always believed that Her Son was the Messiah and gave mankind a direct connection to His Heavenly Father. Surely she shared with others about His saving grace. Surely this was the way Mary lived out her days for her Son, Jesus Christ. And we should do the same…
Prayer
Dear Heavenly Father, how blessed we are that You sent us a Savior, that You sent us Your Son. We thank You for paying the price for our salvation thru the death of Your Son. There is no greater gift that we could ever receive. We praise You for loving us so much. In Jesus Name, Amen.
