Praying for God’s kingdom to come – Colossians 4:2-6
2 Keep on praying and guard your prayers with thanksgiving. 3 At the same time, pray for us also. Pray that God would open a door for the word so we can preach the secret plan[a] of Christ—which is why I’m in chains. 4 Pray that I might be able to make it as clear as I ought to when I preach. 5 Act wisely toward outsiders, making the most of the opportunity. 6 Your speech should always be gracious and sprinkled with insight so that you may know how to respond to every person.
What does this passage mean to me/us?
Paul asks the people to pray and guard themselves with thanksgiving. If we do not defend ourselves, we can easily fall into the rut of the world. On top of his challenge, he requests the people to pray for him. Not for safety, healing of diseases, nor comfort in his prison, he asks that the people pray for him to share the Good News effectively.
Jesus said, “But seek first the kingdom of God and his righteousness, and all these things will be added to you” (Matthew 6:33). Paul was asking prayer for the Kingdom of God. At that moment, it was essential that Paul spoke and shared about the Kingdom, and he needed prayers to do it well.
It leads us to a question to think about how we pray.
Do we first seek God’s Kingdom and pray for God’s Kingdom?
How can we pray for God’s Kingdom to come today?
Prayer
