Today's Scripture
TODAY’S READING SCHEDULE: 2 Samuel 16-18; 1 John 5
confidence in prayer – 1 John 5: 13-17
13 I write these things to you who believe in the name of God’s Son so that you can know that you have eternal life. 14 This is the confidence that we have in our relationship with God: If we ask for anything in agreement with his will, he listens to us. 15 If we know that he listens to whatever we ask, we know that we have received what we asked from him. 16 If anyone sees a brother or sister committing a sin that does not result in death, they should pray, and God will give life to them—that is, to those who commit sins that don’t result in death. There is a sin that results in death—I’m not saying that you should pray about that. 17 Every unrighteous action is sin, but there is a sin that does not result in death.
What does this passage mean to me/us?
Have you ever thought that this request I have is too petty for God to respond? Trying our best to take care of our life is a noble attribute. However, by being too independent, don’t we tend to lose the beauty of being dependent on God?
God calls us to depend on God instead of our ability or this world. God calls us to follow God’s will, and when we are obedient to follow that will, we see how God’s will is done. In that journey, God assures us that when we pray and ask God, God will answer our prayers. But there is a catch; ‘If we ask for anything in agreement with his will.’ Seeking God’s will in our situation is how we depend on God. And as we depend on God’s will to be done, we will see how God answers all our prayers that are aligned to God’s will.
Prayer
Lord, help us to know and follow your will. Then let us see how you answer all our paryers according to your will.
In Christ Name we pray, AMEN.
