Today's Scripture

TODAY’S READING SCHEDULE: Ezekiel 14-15; John 11:1-29

In GOd’s Time- John 11:1-7

A certain man, Lazarus, was ill. He was from Bethany, the village of Mary and her sister Martha. (This was the Mary who anointed the Lord with fragrant oil and wiped his feet with her hair. Her brother Lazarus was ill.) So the sisters sent word to Jesus, saying, “Lord, the one whom you love is ill.”

When he heard this, Jesus said, “This illness isn’t fatal. It’s for the glory of God so that God’s Son can be glorified through it.” Jesus loved Martha, her sister, and Lazarus. When he heard that Lazarus was ill, he stayed where he was. After two days, he said to his disciples, “Let’s return to Judea again.”

What does this passage mean to me/us?

After hearing Lazarus was severely ill, we know that he eventually dies, Jesus did not hurry back to Judea. It took him two days, after hearing the news, to even mention ‘let’s go back.’
Have you ever been in the shoes of waiting for something? You constantly check and wait, check, and wait. And even get frustrated by the wait, even it arrives on time. Somehow Jesus left Martha and Mary wait…
However, this is seeing the event in the eyes of ourselves. In God’s perspective, there is an appointed time for Jesus to go, heal, and resurrect… It is God’s time, when God works, not on our time.
Having patience in the time of trouble is also a way of using that time of discernment to understand God’s will. When we understand God’s will, we can see how God works beyond measure.

Prayer

Lord, reveal your truth in our lives. Help us to follow you ways. In Christ name we pray, Amen.
