Today's Scripture
TODAY’S READING SCHEDULE: Psalms 143-145; 2 Corinthians 13
test your faith – 2 Corinthians 13:5-7
5 Examine yourselves to see if you are in the faith. Test yourselves. Don’t you understand that Jesus Christ is in you? Unless, of course, you fail the test. 6 But I hope that you will realize that we don’t fail the test. 7 We pray to God that you don’t do anything wrong, not because we want to appear to pass the test but so that you might do the right thing, even if we appear to fail.
What does this passage mean to me/us?
No one likes to be tested. We fear if we won’t qualify. We fear to face the reality of where we stand.
The test Paul asks us to take is self-examination. It is a regular checkup for us to see how we can faithfully follow the mission of God.
The Message version easily explains Paul’s intent to understand.
“Test yourselves to make sure you are solid in the faith. Don’t drift along taking everything for granted. Give yourselves regular checkups. You need firsthand evidence, not mere hearsay, that Jesus Christ is in you. Test it out. If you fail the test, do something about it. I hope the test won’t show that we have failed. But if it comes to that, we’d rather the test showed our failure than yours. We’re rooting for the truth to win out in you. We couldn’t possibly do otherwise.
Our we self-evaluating our faith daily?
Prayer
Lord, let us face the state of our faith. And Lord, provide us with your grace to continue to grow in your love. In Christ name we pray, Amen.
