Today's Scripture

TODAY’S READING SCHEDULE: Psalms 107 -109; Galatians 6

Spirit of Gentleness – Galatians 6:1-5

Brothers and sisters, if a person is caught doing something wrong, you who are spiritual should restore someone like this with a spirit of gentleness. Watch out for yourselves so you won’t be tempted too. Carry each other’s burdens and so you will fulfill the law of Christ. If anyone thinks they are important when they aren’t, they’re fooling themselves. Each person should test their own work and be happy with doing a good job and not compare themselves with others. Each person will have to carry their own load.

What does this passage mean to me/us?

Yesterday, a member of our community who regularly attends Open Table visited the church. He was dealing with alcohol problems, and most of the time I met him, he was under the influence. When we didn’t see him, he couldn’t come to our meals for drinking too much.
He was different when I saw him yesterday. Sober and much healthier. He shared how he made amends with his family and returning home. He wanted to return a pepper shaker he “borrowed” from our church. He thanked me for our church and always welcoming him.
As Paul says, we are to love and welcome everyone with a ‘spirit of gentleness.’ Not because we agree with them or condone what they are doing. We should share the love, because of Jesus who gives us to ‘spirit of gentleness.’ It is only up to us if we acknowledge that we have that love and can share that love with others.

Prayer

Lord, help us to see how your pour out your ‘spirit of gentleness’ on our lives. Help us to share it with everyone. In Christ name we pray, Amen.
