Today's Scripture

TODAY’S READING SCHEDULE: Psalms 103 -104; Galatians 4

Freedom – Galatians 4:8-11

At the time, when you didn’t know God, you were enslaved by things that aren’t gods by nature. But now, after knowing God (or rather, being known by God), how can you turn back again to the weak and worthless world system? Do you want to be slaves to it again? 10 You observe religious days and months and seasons and years. 11 I’m afraid for you! Perhaps my hard work for you has been for nothing.

What does this passage mean to me/us?

When we forget the agony of being enslaved, we tend not to appreciate freedom. Remember the time you were sick? Do you remember how much you enjoyed being healthy? Isn’t it odd that we tend to forget how precious our health can be?

In the same way, we can easily dismiss the freedom we receive in Christ. That is why many times, it seems like we are going back to our old ways, not following our Lord. Faith and obedience call us to continue to remind ourselves not to revert to our old ways. It might offer some comfort, but never give us the eternal joy Christ wants us to live out.

Prayer

Lord, let us not revert to our old ways. Help us to walk in this journey, day by day, with you. In Christ name we pray, Amen.
