TODAY’S READING SCHEDULE: Psalms 70 -71; Acts 25

How Far Will We go – Acts 25: 1- 5

Three days after Festus had arrived in the province, he went up from Caesarea to Jerusalem where the chief priests and the leaders of the Jews gave him a report against Paul. They appealed to him and requested, as a favor to them against Paul,[a] to have him transferred to Jerusalem. They were, in fact, planning an ambush to kill him along the way. Festus replied that Paul was being kept at Caesarea, and that he himself intended to go there shortly. “So,” he said, “let those of you who have the authority come down with me, and if there is anything wrong about the man, let them accuse him.”

What does this passage mean to me/us?

Paul was under custody for the past two years, because of the former Governor Felix was intrigued by the message. Now a new governor arrived and wanted to take care of this matter.
He is in a crossroad where the Jewish leader was asking his trial be set in Jerusalem, while there was another option for Paul to go under the Roman trial.

We see that the real reason for requesting a trial in Jerusalem. “They were, in fact, planning an ambush to kill him along the way” (v. 3b)
We need to remember that these leaders were religious leaders. And they are directly contradicting one of the Ten commandments; Thou shall not kill. These are the same people who will create and follow more than thousands of sub laws, not to violate the Ten commandments. And now they eager to do it to conserve their power.
How far will we go to make our ways done?
How far will we have to go to realize that we are far away from God’s will?
How far…?
