Today's Scripture

TODAY’S READING SCHEDULE: Psalms 40 -42; Acts 18

Priscilla and Aquila- Acts 18:1-4

After this, Paul left Athens and went to Corinth. There he found a Jew named Aquila, a native of Pontus. He had recently come from Italy with his wife Priscilla because Claudius had ordered all Jews to leave Rome. Paul visited with them. Because they practiced the same trade, he stayed and worked with them. They all worked with leather. Every Sabbath he interacted with people in the synagogue, trying to convince both Jews and Greeks.

What does this passage mean to me/us?

Priscilla and Aquila became a faithful companion in the work of sharing the Good News. They worked with Paul, and they embraced Paul during his time in Corinth. Together, with Paul, they founded the church of Corinth, and we later see how they also embrace Apollo, who appears in 1 Corinthians.

In today’s words, they were faithful lay servants who became the pillars of the church. Whenever a pastor (apostle) came, they embraced the pastor and sometimes helped the pastor to grow. Their presence in the church continued the ministry for the Kingdom.

Today, I remember the countless Priscilla and Aquila I’ve met. I remember their continual support and love. It is that companionship we have, in God, that leads us to walk in this journey for the Kingdom.

Prayer

Lord, help us to become a Priscilla and Aquila for your sake. Help us to rejoice in the companionship. In Your Name, we pray, Amen.
