TODAY’S READING SCHEDULE: Psalms 31 -32; Acts 16:1 -21
Change of plans – Acts 16:6-10
6 Paul and his companions traveled throughout the regions of Phrygia and Galatia because the Holy Spirit kept them from speaking the word in the province of Asia.7 When they approached the province of Mysia, they tried to enter the province of Bithynia, but the Spirit of Jesus wouldn’t let them. 8 Passing by Mysia, they went down to Troas instead. 9 A vision of a man from Macedonia came to Paul during the night. He stood urging Paul, “Come over to Macedonia and help us!”10 Immediately after he saw the vision, we prepared to leave for the province of Macedonia, concluding that God had called us to proclaim the good news to them.
What does this passage mean to me/us?
When we think we are following God’s way, we believe we will not face any obstacles.
Paul was following God’s way to share the Good News with people, and he attempted to share the word in Asia.
Every time he tried, however, God shut the door on to Paul’s plan.
We assume if we are faithfully following God, God will clear up all obstacles. Some even go and say, if there is an obstacle, it surely can’t be God’s will. Often the case is the other way around. Through obstacles, we can see God’s will cleary. Through perseverance, we see how not only God will is done, but also how we experience full obedience to our Lord.
Despite his countless attempts, when Paul saw God’s vision, he was able to turn away from his original plan immediately. It says, “Immediately after he saw the vision, we prepared to leave for the province of Macedonia, concluding that God had called us to proclaim the good news to them” (v.10).
God rejoices more in our obedience than what we achieve or do.
