Today's Scripture
TODAY’S READING SCHEDULE: Obadiah; Acts 8:1 -25
Joy in the City: Acts 8: 4-8
4 Those who had been scattered moved on, preaching the good news along the way. 5 Philip went down to a city in Samaria[a] and began to preach Christ to them. 6 The crowds were united by what they heard Philip say and the signs they saw him perform, and they gave him their undivided attention. 7 With loud shrieks, unclean spirits came out of many people, and many who were paralyzed or crippled were healed. 8 There was great rejoicing in that city.
What does this passage mean to me/us?
After the persecution started, Philip was forced to go to Samaria. In that scenario, one can easily say, ‘I’m done with this movement led by Jesus. Now, I am forbidden to stay in the place I lived.’ However, he did not see it as a reason to stop sharing the way of the Gospel. He went to the Samaritans and shared the Good News. Remember how the Jewish people thought of the Samaritans? They would not even talk or associate with them. However, through the percussion, we see how the last word of Jesus is becoming true, “But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes on you; and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the ends of the earth” (Acts 1:8 NIV). And when Philip became a witness, “There was great rejoicing in that city” (Acts 8:8).
In every circumstance, we are in when we are called to be the witness of the Good News. And when we witness God’s love we will see the great joy that comes from the city. Witnessing is sharing, with our life, whey we follow Jesus; because he died for us to be connected with our Creator.
Prayer
Lord, it is your desire to share your Good News with the people around us. Pour out your Spirit for us to go and witness. In the name of Jesus, we pray, AMEN.
