Today's Scripture

TODAY’S READING SCHEDULE: Deuteronomy 19 -21; Acts 5:1 -21

Solomon’s Porch – acts 5:12-16

12 The apostles performed many signs and wonders among the people. They would come together regularly at Solomon’s Porch. 13 No one from outside the church dared to join them, even though the people spoke highly of them.14 Indeed, more and more believers in the Lord, large numbers of both men and women, were added to the church. 15 As a result, they would even bring the sick out into the main streets and lay them on cots and mats so that at least Peter’s shadow could fall on some of them as he passed by. 16 Even large numbers of persons from towns around Jerusalem would gather, bringing the sick and those harassed by unclean spirits. Everyone was healed.

What does this passage mean to me/us?

When we lived in Wilmore, KY, during my study at Asbury, there was a small brunch cafe called Solomon’s Porch.
An Asbury University graduate, who loved the community so much, started this cafe, where people in the community love to come.
Every day, this cafe was filled with students, professors, community members sharing life and the Word.

When I read this verse, it reminds me of that small cafe. It reminds me of the vision where the owner wanted his cafe to be; ‘where everyone was healed’ (v. 16).

As we are moving into our new house, and slowly getting settled, I am adding another prayer to my prayer of remembering that this place is a tent; prayer that this place will be like Solomon’s Porch.

In many ways or forms, we pray that this will be a place where healing flows.
Our church should become Solomon’s Porch. And everywhere we live, remembering that we are the church, can also become a Solomon’s Porch.

Prayer

Lord, thank you for the blessings you pour into our lives. May it overflow into this world through us.  In the name of Jesus, we pray, AMEN.
