Today's Scripture
TODAY’S READING SCHEDULE: Deuteronomy 4 -6; Acts 2:1 -21
Filled with the spirit – acts 2:1-4
When Pentecost Day arrived, they were all together in one place. 2 Suddenly a sound from heaven like the howling of a fierce wind filled the entire house where they were sitting. 3 They saw what seemed to be individual flames of fire alighting on each one of them. 4 They were all filled with the Holy Spirit and began to speak in other languages as the Spirit enabled them to speak.
What does this passage mean to me/us?
What Jesus told the disciples really happened! They were filled with the Spirit, as Jesus promised.
Often people focus more on how the disciples spoke in different tongues. Not to put down the spiritual gift of tongues, but we should focus on the fact that Jesus’ promise was fulfilled and the disciples were filled with the spirit. Being filled with the Spirit means that our complete control is surrendered to our Lord. As a matter of fact, speaking in tongues is a good example of how we surrender our control to God. It is only possible for God to work in us through the spiritual gift of tongues, or any kind of spiritual gifts when we surrender to God’s ways.
When we make room for God, we see how the Spirit, who was always with us, fills our lives.
Prayer
Lord, we give our control to you! Fill us with your Holy Spirit, and help us to follow your ways, today. In the name of Jesus, we pray, AMEN.
