Today's Scripture
TODAY’S READING SCHEDULE: Joel 1 -3; Philippians 4
Can do all things – Philippians 4:10-13
10 I was very glad in the Lord because now at last you have shown concern for me again. (Of course you were always concerned but had no way to show it.) 11 I’m not saying this because I need anything, for I have learned how to be content in any circumstance. 12 I know the experience of being in need and of having more than enough; I have learned the secret to being content in any and every circumstance, whether full or hungry or whether having plenty or being poor. 13 I can endure all these things through the power of the one who gives me strength.14 Still, you have done well to share my distress.
What does this passage mean to me/us?
I was shocked to see that many people, especially athletes, used this verse to show how they push through.
Yes, it is God who gives us the strength to do things that are beyond our abilities, but we also need to remember what it is for.
Paul is writing and thanking the people of Philippi, for supporting him through his imprisonment.
He thanks them for their prayers, but also their financial support. That is why he says, “ I’m not saying this because I need anything, for I have learned how to be content in any circumstance. 12 I know the experience of being in need and of having more than enough; I have learned the secret to being content in any and every circumstance, whether full or hungry or whether having plenty or being poor.”
And one of the secrets is seeing God giving him the strength to endure all hardship. God gives us the strength to be content of our situation, also in why we need to live in contentment. God gives us the strength to push through, even though we face difficulties, faithfully following God’s mission. It is the mission of God, we follow, and the strength of God, for us to continue in God’s mission we should experience.
Do we ask for God’s strength for God’s will?
Prayer
Lord, we ask for your strength to carry out your will in our lives, not ours. In the name of Jesus, we pray, AMEN.
