Today's Scripture
TODAY’S READING SCHEDULE: Jeremiah 43 -45; Matthew 27:51 -66
stepping up – Matthew 27:57-61
57 When it was evening, there came a rich man from Arimathea, named Joseph, who was also a disciple of Jesus. 58 He went to Pilate and asked for the body of Jesus; then Pilate ordered it to be given to him. 59 So Joseph took the body and wrapped it in a clean linen cloth 60 and laid it in his own new tomb, which he had hewn in the rock. He then rolled a great stone to the door of the tomb and went away. 61 Mary Magdalene and the other Mary were there, sitting opposite the tomb.
What does this passage mean to me/us?
Jesus died on the hill of skulls. It’s because all criminals who were crucified on this hill were thrown away in a pit, where the body decomposed. There was no guarantee if Pilate will grant the plea of Joseph. Joseph may have taken a tremendous risk to approach Pilate.
Especially at the moment when some other follows fled or turn their back on Jesus, as a result of their disappointment.
There are times where things don’t make the turn we want or anticipate.
However, it is important to continue to follow and do what we are called to live out, regardless of any disappointment.
Prayer
