Today's Scripture

TODAY’S READING SCHEDULE: Jeremiah 37 -39; Matthew 27:1 -26

Are you the King? – Matthew 27:11-14

11 Jesus was brought before the governor. The governor said, “Are you the king of the Jews?”

Jesus replied, “That’s what you say.” 12 But he didn’t answer when the chief priests and elders accused him.

13 Then Pilate said, “Don’t you hear the testimony they bring against you?” 14 But he didn’t answer, not even a single word. So the governor was greatly amazed.

What does this passage mean to me/us?

The way Pilate asks the question, “Are you the king of the Jews?” shows his hidden interest regarding Jesus.
We all know Pilate was in a predicament. At the same time, he wanted to see the truth.
The way people seek truth might all be different. Last Sunday, I met a person who was attempting to seek truth through Buddhism.
I believe he was defensive of his position, but I did not accuse him nor correct him.
We were able to share our thoughts freely. He became a bit more open at the end of our discussion.
I was amazed at this quest toward the truth and prayed that he will find Jesus, who is the only way, some moment in his journey.
Do we know if he will arrive at the conclusion I think? No… But we still love and engage, even though we might not agree.
Same like Jesus and Pilate.

Prayer

Lord, help us to love even though we might not agree.  In the name of Jesus, we pray, AMEN.
