Unclean spirit – Matthew 12:43-45
43 “When an unclean spirit leaves a person, it wanders through dry places looking for a place to rest. But it doesn’t find any. 44 Then it says, ‘I’ll go back to the house I left.’ When it arrives, it finds the place vacant, cleaned up, and decorated.45 Then it goes and brings with it seven other spirits more evil than itself. They go in and make their home there. That person is worse off at the end than at the beginning. This is the way it will be also for this evil generation.”
What does this passage mean to me/us?
Jesus often shares the spiritual law and nature that we are unfamiliar with.
Jesus says that when an evil spirit is cast away, there is a strong chance for it to come back with more domain.
I am not indicating that our sins are a result of an evil spirit. However, have you wondered why it is so hard to shake off a horrible habit? It is true that our enemy does not want us to be freed from our hurts or habits.
On a certain day, we might feel like we have progress, but on another, we might relapse and feel even worst.
That is human nature and the law of the spiritual force that surrounds us. That is why we need to cling on to the grace that is abundant through our Lord. Paul has a similar call of frustrations, as he says in Romans 7, according to the Message, “It happens so regularly that it’s predictable. The moment I decide to do good, sin is there to trip me up. I truly delight in God’s commands, but it’s pretty obvious that not all of me joins in that delight. Parts of me covertly rebel, and just when I least expect it, they take charge. I’ve tried everything and nothing helps. I’m at the end of my rope. Is there no one who can do anything for me? Isn’t that the real question? The answer, thank God, is that Jesus Christ can and does. He acted to set things right in this life of contradictions where I want to serve God with all my heart and mind, but am pulled by the influence of sin to do something totally different” (Romans 7:21-25, The Message).
We need Jesus, every single day of our lives. Do we desire him every day?
