Today's Scripture
TODAY’S READING SCHEDULE: Proverbs 27-29; Hebrews 4
Hebrews 4: 12-13 The Living Bible
12 For the word of God is loving and active. Sharper than any double-edged sword, it penetrates even to dividing soul and spirit, joints and marrow; it judges the thoughts and attitudes of the heart. 13 Nothing in all creation is hidden from God’s sight. Everything is uncovered and laid bare before the eyes of him to whom we must give account.
What does this passage mean to me/us? Contributed by Sarah Pero
By reading and studying the Word of our Lord, the scripture from the Holy Bible, we can learn so much about how to live a life that is totally committed to God. As these verses say from this fourth chapter of Hebrews, the word of God is not only loving and active, it is also something that penetrates to our core. It judges all the thoughts and attitudes of our hearts. No matter how hard we physically try to live our lives so that they are pleasing to God, we fail because we cannot do it without God’s grace or the guidance of His Word. Dr. David Jeremiah states that “the inner life of a Christian is often a mixture of genuinely spiritual and completely human motivations. Only a supernaturally discerning agent such as the Word of God can sort out what is of the flesh and what is of the spirit.” This is our daily challenge…to seek to live a spiritual life which honors God and, with His help, resist the temptations of the flesh.
