Hebrews 3: 12-14 The Living Bible
2 Beware then of your own hearts, dear brothers, lest you find that they, too, are evil and unbelieving and are leading you away from the living God. 13 Speak to each other about these things every day while there is still time, so that none of you will become hardened against God, being blinded by the deceitfulness of sin. 14 For if we are faithful to the end, trusting God just as we did when we first became Christians, we will share in all that belongs to Christ.
What does this passage mean to me/us? Contributed by Sarah Pero
Hebrews was written to a group of first-century Christians who were in danger of giving up on their new found Christian faith. They were being tested and were exposed to fierce persecution, physically assaulted for their beliefs, cast into prison, and their homes plundered. Their faith was daily tested and they must have wondered if faith in Jesus Christ was truly worth it. They were in desperate need of encouragement to not give up on their faith.
We are blessed to live in a place and a time when we are not physically tested or threatened because we love the Lord Jesus and follow Him. Not all Christians are so fortunate because there are places in this world where people still loose their lives because of their faith in Christ. As the author of Hebrews says, we are to stand firm in our faith and encourage each other so that we will not be lead away from our faith by the temptations and evils of this world. We all need to be faithful to the end, no matter what happens in this life.
Prayer
Oh, Jesus Christ, our Lord, You have never deceived us, let us down, or turned your back on us. May our faith in you forever remain strong, and may we encourage all of our Christian family and friends to never give up on their faith in You. We love You with all of our hearts. In Your precious name we pray, Amen
