Today's Scripture
Restoration For Returning To The Covenant – Deuteronomy30:1-10 (NIV)
TODAY’S READING SCHEDULE: Job 38-40; 1 Corinthians 13 (CEB)
Even if you have been banished to the most distant land under the heavens, from there the Lord your God will gather you and bring you back. 5 He will bring you to the land that belonged to your ancestors, and you will take possession of it. He will make you more prosperous and numerous than your ancestors. 6 The Lord your God will circumcise your hearts and the hearts of your descendants, so that you may love him with all your heart and with all your soul, and live.7 The Lord your God will put all these curses on your enemies who hate and persecute you. 8 You will again obey the Lord and follow all his commands I am giving you today. 9 Then the Lord your God will make you most prosperous in all the work of your hands and in the fruit of your womb, the young of your livestock and the crops of your land. The Lord will again delight in you and make you prosperous, just as he delighted in your ancestors, 10 if you obey the Lord your God and keep his commands and decrees that are written in this Book of the Law and turn to the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul.
What does this passage mean to me/us? Contributed by Rich McGimsey
God knows we will disobey and turn away from Him. He knows our human nature is to put ourselves first. As he reveals our weakness he also reveals that there is always a way back. In these verses God promises the Israelites a physical restoration for turning back to him. Once they Obey and repent, God will gather them no matter how far they had been scattered and bring them back to the promised land. God also provides spiritual renewal. This is an amazing grace and unconditional love of our Heavenly Father. No matter how far we fall and how big we fail, God gives us a way to Find and keep loving him. He will give us a way that changes us. The message describes verse 6, God, your God, will cut away the thick calluses of your heart and your children’s hearts, freeing you to love God, your God, with your whole heart and soul and live, really live. Eventually, The people do turn back to God and commit their lives to God, he restores them to their promised land and changes them.
Prayer
Dear Heavenly Father, thank you for your unconditional love in the face of our disobedience. We pray that you always work on our hearts to cut away the hard places. The places that put us first. Let us focus on you, God. And as we do we see the needs in our community and beyond. Empower us Lord to help those in need. In Jesus Christ. Amen
